The Ultrafast Amplifier and Accessories course covers the theory, installation, alignment, operation, and maintenance of Astrella, Topas Prime, and Opera Solo laser systems to a basic level of competency. It is intended for advanced laser engineers with strong laser and optical backgrounds. The course focuses on the topics listed below. Week one is centered on Astrella, week two is centered on OPA accessories. Training takes place in the laboratory and consists of extensive hands-on optical alignment covering the range of daily optimization to “worst-case,” complete re-alignment scenarios. Upon successfully completing the course, students should be able to train others to control and operate the laser.
Topics: Laser, electrical, and lab safety; theory of operation; review of specifications and typical operating conditions; tools and practices; installation; optical layout and identification of components; identification of components; daily operation, turn on/off procedures, software control and instructions, maintenance procedures; Q-switching; cavity dumping; Regen cavity alignment; stretcher and compressor alignment; injection alignment; pulse width optimization; beam profile optimization; pre/post pulse contrast ratio optimization; component replacement; optical alignment of OPA and wavelength extensions; power and spectrum optimization; wavelength calibration; wavelength tuning; laser optimization; electronic and optical troubleshooting techniques; optics cleaning; customer training; operational and component differences between the OPerA Solo and Topas-Prime; discussion of available/typical diagnostics.
Prerequisites: Successfully completing a Pump laser (Revolution) and oscillator (Vitara) service courses. Approval from the Regional Service Manager and the RLS Product Support Manager. Complete product knowledge requires a thorough understanding of various optical/electronic components and their roles in the system. Complete the SDG Elite Operation Service video training modules Parts 1 & 2 (PN: 2315731). You should be able to read schematics as well as block diagrams and relate them to actual assembly. This course is by invitation only.
